THE AWARD

Competitor Aquatics Professional of the Month is a recurring AOAP feature shedding light on an Aquatics Professional who has risen above the competition. As with any item of recognition, Competitor Aquatics Professional of the Month is a subjective exercise meant to highlight one aquatic professional whose work holds noteworthy context – perhaps a manager who was clearly in the limelight, or one whose work fell through the cracks a bit more among other stories. If your favorite aquatics director wasn’t selected, feel free to submit their name and information below for future consideration (they must be a member of AOAP to be considered).

May 2026 Competitor Aquatic Professional of the Month

Regina Iversen serves as the Recreation Coordinator III – Aquatics for the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. With over two decades of dedicated service in the aquatics industry, Regina has become a cornerstone of safety and operational excellence within the Southwest region. Her leadership during the May 2026 season was particularly noteworthy, as she managed a monumental staffing transition while ensuring that all community pools met peak safety standards ahead of the summer rush.

Her colleagues describe her as a manager who often works behind the scenes, ensuring that every detail - from water chemistry to lifeguard vigilance - is executed with precision. It is this combination of high-level strategic planning and hands-on dedication that makes her an exemplary choice for the AOAP-Competitor Aquatic Professional of the Month.

Beyond her technical expertise, Regina is known for her mentorship. She has guided hundreds of young professionals into lifelong careers in aquatics, fostering a culture of professional development and mutual respect.
